We are thrilled to announce that our neighbors at Sutter Health will continue to be the premier sponsor of our volunteer program in 2018! Their partnership supports the efforts of over 120 active volunteers and docents collectively contributing over 13,000 hours of service each year! “We know that this investment into the volunteer program at Sutter’s Fort will have far reaching positive impacts on visitors of all generations.” – Angelika Corchado, Community Benefit Associate for Sutter Health.

On behalf of the Friends of Sutter’s Fort, we want to thank Sutter Health for their continued partnership and support of this important program. Thank you!

What is a Docent and What do they do?

Docents are highly trained volunteers who receive continuing enrichment training to which they add their own unique approach and experiences. They are typically seen in historic costume and help Park Staff interpret what life was like during the 1800s.

Our docents make our highly acclaimed programs (such as the Environmental Living Program and Trappers’ Camp) an engaging experience. They also help lead our monthly Hands on History events (filling Sutter’s Fort with differing interactive and hands-on activities), and travel to Colusa and Red Bluff to help thousands of students at Trappers’ Camp every fall better understand the role of trappers in California history. We also depend on our volunteers to provide interpretation and support during special events, like our upcoming Tour by Chocolate in May.

If you have a passion for sharing and enjoy speaking to the public, becoming a volunteer docent may be a good fit for you! Learn more here!
