Mexican Flag Day
Monday, February 24th

Join us in honoring Mexican Flag Day (Día de la Bandera) on February 24, a day established in 1940 by President Lázaro Cárdenas to celebrate Mexico’s national flag and its rich history.
Long before California became part of the United States, it was Mexican territory. When John Sutter arrived in 1839, he became a Mexican citizen and a representative of the territorial government, flying the Mexican Flag at Sutter’s Fort until 1846. Today, we continue to recognize this history by flying the Mexican Civil Flag daily at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park.
This event is presented in partnership with the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California. Visit the Fort and take part in this special day of remembrance and history!
