Last month, Friends of Sutter’s Fort had the honor of hosting the annual Docent Appreciation Dinner for Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP). This event is one of the many ways we work with California State Parks to commemorate the many amazing people that give so much of the time, energy, and lives to making Sutter’s Fort SHP such a wonderful place to visit in the past year.
This year we were fortunate to join with over 80 plus volunteers, staff, and other guests at Club Pheasant in West Sacramento to celebrate 13,055 hours of volunteer service donated to Sutter’s Fort SHP in 2018.
In addition to acknowledging the collective accomplishments of the many hard-working volunteers and docents at the park, staff from California State Parks and Friends of Sutter’s Fort also recognized the following volunteers for their individual contributions:
Volunteer Medallions:
- Bill Pickering — 10 years and over 5,400 hours of service
- Michael Blair — 36 years and over 4,300 hours of service
This is the highest level award given by California State Parks that specifically recognizes outstanding volunteer service.
California Poppy Award:
- Dave Brubaker — 14 years and over 3,400 hours of service
All Around Service Award:
- Diana King — 14 years and over 4,000 hours of service
New Volunteer Extraordinaire Award:
- The Ortega Family — Audrey, Aryton, Laura, and Sara Ortega
Outstanding Docent Award:
- The Faulkner Family — Cynthia, David, and Joaquin Faulkner
True Friend Award:
Friends of Sutter’s Fort was pleased to present the True Friend Award to Dianna King and Joan Cochrane, recognizing their outstanding service to both Sutter’s Fort SHP and Friends of Sutter’s Fort.
