Flashback Friday:

The first known reference to Sacramento as the “City of Trees” dates back to 1855. Sacramento has a long history of loving trees! This article was published by The Sacramento Bee applauding the efforts taken to save an old Cottonwood Tree that had been standing in the park at Sutter’s Fort on the corner of 27th and K St. The article states that the tree was nearly 7 feet in diameter and 18 feet in circumference. It stood 3 stories tall. At one time it had stood against a slough that ran from McKinley Park to around Southside Park.
