The roof replacement project is well underway at Sutter’s Fort! Work has begun on the western side of the Fort structures around the Carpenter Shop, Museum Store and Grist Mill.
During the project, the roof on the exterior walls of Sutter’s Fort SHP will be completely replaced. In addition, seismic work will be completed. Securing the new roof and stabilizing the historic structure makes it possible to invest in new exhibits, artwork and interpretive panels without fear of damage due to intruding water, pests and debris from a failing roof.
During the project you can visit Sutter’s Fort for free! California State Parks is currently waiving admission fees during the project as most of the rooms at the Fort are currently closed. However the Central Building (the oldest existing structure in Sacramento).
We will continue to share photos and information about the progress of this important project throughout the summer.
