This photo, taken in 2012 and shared by mhowry on Flickr, captures Sutter’s Fort before the transformative restoration efforts of the past decade. Notice the worn paint, exposed brick, and the aging wooden gates that awaited repair. Since then, State Parks, Friends of Sutter’s Fort, dedicated community members, and generous donors have collaborated to bring immense improvements to this landmark. Today, Sutter’s Fort boasts restored gates, fresh paint, enhanced lighting, and a new roof—all reflecting our shared commitment to preserving this important site for future generations.

Thank you for being part of this journey!
