Date: June 11, 2024
Time: 9AM
Location: SpringHill Suites by Marriott West Sacramento, 3455 Reed Ave West Sacramento, CA 95605

In 2020, California State Parks committed to fundamentally change the way history is presented at Sutter’s Fort. Recognizing the need for more complexity, accuracy, and inclusion, California State Parks have been working closely with local Native American Tribes to develop a new Interpretation Master Plan (IMP). This plan addresses the past misrepresentations and provides a more truthful portrayal of the 19th-century life and the impacts of John Sutter and the Fort on California Indigenous people.

After several public workshops in 2022 and tentative approval by the California State Parks Planning and Acquisition Committee in 2023, California State Parks is now seeking to amend the Sutter’s Fort General Plan. This amendment will formalize the changes in the new IMP and allow California State Parks to continue its commitment to transforming the interpretive programming at Sutter’s Fort.
