Hands on History: A Simple Immigrant Christmas

Saturday, December 14th
10:00am to 5:00pm

Visit Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and enjoy a very festive Hands on History event, A Simple Immigrant Christmas!

In the 1840s, the gates of Sutter’s Fort were opened to any and all weary travelers who made the perilous journey to California in search of a new beginning.

Through heat and snow and countless hardships, these immigrants brought with them not only food and supplies but also their customs and traditions of home to make this promising, yet unfamiliar, land a place of opportunity, comfort, and hope.

It is in this spirit that we invite you and your family to share in our holiday traditions by joining us at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park for our annual Simple Immigrant Christmas!

Enjoy the festive traditions of early California complete with docents dressed in period attire.

Activities May Include:

  • Crafting a “keepsake” holiday ornaments.
  • Singing Christmas carols with Sutter’s Fort musicians.
  • Dipping your own holiday candles.
  • Decorating cookies.
  • Stringing popcorn.
  • and MORE!

Or you could simply gather ’round the campfire’ and share your own holiday traditions.

Additionally, our Friends of Sutter’s Fort Gift and Trade Store will be open to help you with your holiday shopping needs with a special sale.
