First Day Hikes at Sutter’s Fort

Join us for the first-ever New Year’s Day Nature Walk at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park and discover the vital role urban parks play in our local ecosystems and communities.

This family-friendly, accessible tour will introduce you to the diverse native plants and majestic oak trees that thrive in the park’s natural landscape. The walk will follow smooth pathways through historic buildings and serene natural spaces, with only slight elevation changes. Some sections may lead you onto open lawn areas where you can take a closer look at points of interest.

Whether you’re an experienced nature enthusiast or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful stroll, this walk is the perfect way to welcome the new year surrounded by nature.

Tour Information:

Times: 11:30 am & 1:00 pm
Meting Location: Meet at the bridge between the ponds in the center of the park (between the State Indian Museum and Sutter’s Fort).
What to Bring: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for a light walk. Don’t forget your water bottle!
Parking: Metered parking is available throughout the park grounds.
Accessibility: The park offers accessible pathways, making this an easy and enjoyable outing for all.

Important Notes:

The State Indian Museum and Sutter’s Fort will be closed for the holiday, but the park grounds remain open for your enjoyment. No registration required! Just show up and join the fun!
