Inside Sutter’s Fort, Museum Collection Spotlight Series: Gold Rush Era Harp
This harp is an example of a “harp of one order.” According to the original Sutter’s Fort catalogue card, Mexican musicians played this harp in the dance halls in mining towns during the Gold Rush Period. The harp was made in Mexico and brought to San Francisco by an unknown player in 1848. It later fell into the hands of an early Sacramento resident, who donated it to Sutter’s Fort between 1900 and 1930. Weaving Demonstration at the State Indian Museum
This Saturday, November 11th, the California State Indian Museum will host a basket weaving demonstration given by Dixie Rogers, accomplished Karuk weaver and cultural practitioner. Read more: Weaving Demonstration at the State Indian Museum
Roof Replacement Move to the Southeast Side of the Fort
The roof project is moving along at Sutter’s Fort, with all of the shingles now installed on the entire western side of the Fort, including the Distillery Room, Blacksmith Shop, Museum Store and Grist Mill. Plan Ahead for Thanksgiving Weekend
Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park is a great place to visit with out of town guests over the holiday weekend. While Sutter’s Fort SHP will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, the historic structures will be open throughout the rest of the weekend with free admission for self-guided tours. Roof Replacement Project: Ready for Shingles
The roof replacement project is in full swing. Shingles will begin to be installed on the western side of the Fort, including the Carpenter Shop, Museum Store, and Grist Mill.
